6' 7", 220 pound Mike Vandello from Bettendorf Iowa has verbally committed to ISU. Bettendorf won the Iowa Class 4A state basketball championship this season, and Mike was named to the All Tournament team. Mike is a three-year letter winner at Bettendorf, and was a starter in the 2003-04 season while helping the team earn a state tourney berth and a 3rd place finish. Vandello earned second-team All State honors, and was first team All Conference. Mike ranks No. 1 in his class with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average and plans to major in business. He led his team with 6.2 rebounds per game and was second in scoring with a 14.0 average. He shot 60 percent fro m the field and 70 percent from the free throw line. Mike started his basketball career playing point guard, but a growth spurt that took him from 5' 10" to 6' 6" saw him change to a post player with guard skills. He is capable of of taking a defender off the dribble, posting up, or stepping out and shooting from the three point line. |
