Fortes of Daytona Beach Community College has verbally committed play at ISU next season. The 6' 4" , 195lb shooting guard, played high school ball at Fort Wayne Indiana's North Side High School. He averaged 13.4 ppg, 2nd highest average on a team that had 5 players average in double figures, shot 46% from the field, 41% from 3 and 76% from the line in helping the the Eagles to a 21-8 record last season. He is the team's top returning scorer this year. 

Daytona Beach's head coach is former WIU assistant Brad Underwood, and assistant coach Geoff Alexander is the brother of current Redbird Gregg Alexander.

 Fortes was, an all-state player at Fort Wayne (Ind.) North Side High School two years ago.

Fortes moved to the United States from Angola when he was 9 years old.

He made 13 straight shots from 3-point range during a two-game stretch last season. He scored a career-high 31 points on only 10 shots in one game. 

Fortes also visited North Carolina-Charlotte. He canceled recruiting visits to the University of Mississippi and Florida A&M after his visit to ISU.

Junior college guru Jerry Mullen rated Fortes as a mid-to high-major player in his Roundball Review. He classified Fortes "as a great shooter with a good feel for the game, who guards well."
