The Birds got off to a slow start, taking 8 minutes to score their first 10 points. They also committed 9 first half turnovers. However, after falling behind shortly by double digits the Birds sank 3 straight 3 pointers, 2 by leading scorer Tarise Bryson and 1 by Shawn Jeppson as the Birds scraped their way back into the game and trailing by 2 at half time, 26-28, after tying the score shortly at 19.
The Birds handled the ball much better in the second half, turning it over only 5 times. They took their first lead of the game with 9:13 left on 2 free throws by Ryan Crowley. It was short lived as Jenkins nailed a 3 from the top of the key to quickly put UNI back up on top. The Birds came back to take a 4 point lead but that too was short lived as Robbie Seiverding scored 5 straight points to regain the lead. With 2:01 left in the game ISU finally took the lead for good on another Crowley free throw. They finally sealed the victory when Bryson nailed a 3 in the corner in front of ISU's bench with 31 seconds left in the game to put the Birds up 54-50. On the next play Seiverding ran the length of the court and made a lay-up and was fouled but missed the free throw. 4 free throws by Jeppson and Crowley gave ISU a 58-53 lead with 17 seconds remaining. The Redbirds made only 14 field goals, shooting 36 percent, but were 27-of-34 from the foul line, |
