PJ Smith started the game strong for
the Birds scoring 10 of the teams first 17 points. Shawn
Jeppson notched the next 5 points. The Chippewa's kept in the game on
some early hot shooting from behind the arc but late in the half ISU
stretched a 10 point lead, before coasting in to an 8 point halftime lead.
Smith added 4 more points, to score 14 in the half, but went down
with a sprained ankle and didn't play in the second half. Central Michigan kept it a game till the final minute but could never get closer than 5 points. The Birds, once again, rebounded strongly, out-rebounding their opponent 51-29. Unfortunately, 18 ISU turnovers and 58% free throw shooting (15-26) kept the Birds from running away with a victory. Ryan Crowley tied PJ for team high honors with 14 points. L Dee Murdock finished with another double/double scoring 11 points and grabbing 9 rebounds. Shawn Jeppson scored 13 points, handled a team high 4 assists in 30 minutes of play. Smith also handled 4 assists. Tarise Bryson added 11 points, but made only 3 out of 13 shots from the field, 3 of 11 from 3 point land. Crowley did a good job defending C Michigan's leading scorer David Webber to 9 points on 4-23 shooting from the field. |
