Iona is led by 6' 9", 230 lb Kashif Hameed who is averaging 20ppg this season. Five NBA scouts were present for the game to watch Hameed. Iona is 2-0.

The game started out at a frentic pace with both teams scoring 3 point plays. ISU's came after Tyrone Brown , who grabbed 5 rebounds in the first 8 minutes, made his first free throw then missing the second but getting his own rebound and putting it back. The Birds scored the next 4 points to go up 7-3. after exchanging scores a couple of times a three by L. Dee Murdock put ISU up by 6 at 13-7. The Gaels scored the next 6 to tie it at 13. The crazy pace continued with turnovers, fouls and missed transition shots prevailing at both ends. The Birds scored the next 4 to take a 17-13 lead. The Gaels then went on a 11-2 run to go ahead 24-19. That was followed by a 7 point run by ISU to go up 25-24. Later with the game tied at 32 Tarise Bryson scored 5 straight points on a three pointer and 2 free throws to boost ISU to a 37-32 lead with 37.5 seconds to go. A put back by Iona and 2 Ryan Crowley free throws made it 39-34 at the half. Bryson led ISU with 10 points. LeRoy Watkins and Sean Riley added 8 each, and L. Dee and Brown chipped in 5 for the Birds. ISU shot 38% from the field to Iona's 42%. Both teams committed 9 turnovers and grabbed 19 rebounds. The Birds held Hameed to 6 point for the half.

A three point play by Watkins put ISU up 8 to start the half. Brown and Bryson scored 5 and 4 points respectively to give ISU a 10 point lead at 53-43 with 14:44 to go. A three point play by Murdock made it 56-43. A 7-1 run by Iona made it 57-50 with under 12 minutes to go. Then 4-0 runs by both teams set the score at 61-54. Iona's Miller fouled out with 7:49 to go. The two free throws by Bryson made it 66-58. Free throws dominated the rest of the game as ISU held off Iona 83-75 to win the tournament championship.

Bryson led ISU with 18 points. LeRoy and L. Dee added 14 each. Riley and Brown scored 10, Victor Williams had 9 and Crowley added 8. Tariq Kirksay led Iona with 17 and Hameed finished with 11 points and 4 rebounds to LeRoy's 14 points and 7 rebounds.

Tarise Bryson was named the Tournament MVP and LeRoy Watkins and Victor Williams also made the All Tournament Team. ISU will come home tommorrow night and arrive in Normal at 3am Tuesday.
