ISU vs Oakland University (Michigan) November 16th 2:05 p.m. ISU easily defeated Oakland U. 101-66 in their first regular season game. The Oakland Pioneers are a provisional Division 1 school who finished in the sweet 16 of the Div 2 NCAA tournament last year.Next year they become a full fledged member at the Division 1 level . ISU's Jamar Smiley did not play as he served the 3rd game of a 4 game suspension. Leroy Watkins (dislocated shoulder) & Kenneth Pierson(knee injury) also also did not play. However Rico Hill returned to action today.Rico came off the bench early in the first half and scored 16 points and pulled down 7 boards in 17 min. After Oakland cut a 22 point halftime lead to 10,Rico hit a big 3 at the 15:18 mark to start a 28-5 run during the next 8 minutes.Rico claimed to be 70-80% in playing shape during post game interviews but he pretty much looked like he hadn't missed a beat. Steve Hansell turned in another excellent performance with 8 points,11 assists,2 steals and no turnovers.Rob Gibbons scored 16 pts, and grabbed 4 boards.Ronald vanVelzen scored 13 and tied Rico for a team high 7 boards. And,of course,there was Dan Muller with his usually solid play.21 points,4rebounds,3assists,2 steals and 1 blocked shot.
