ISU ,5-2 overall and 2-0 in the valley,defeated Creighton (4-3) 71-62 in Omaha.Creighton was 4-0 at home and 0-2 on the road before losing their first home game of the season to the Birds .ISU started slowely missing their first 6 shots before Rob Gibbons scored 3 1/2 minutes into the game.Rob was the teams leading scorer in the first half with 7 points.Rico Hill came off the bench to pace ISU in scoring (17) and rebounds (13).LeRoy Watkins also came off the bench early in the first half scoring 8 points and grabbing 3 boards.The Birds had the entire team available for the first time this season. Skipp Schaefbauer and Steve Hansell both led the team with 5 assists.Jamar Smiley who was in foul trouble most of the game and fouled out with 8 minutes to go was limited to 4 assists,4 rebounds and 2 points.Skipp didn't score again but besides leading the team in assists also played an excellent defensive game.Hansell chipped in a season high 15 points to go along with the 5 assists.Dan Muller scored 14 and grabbed 8 boards.

After the slow start the Birds scrapped back into the game,dominating the last 10 minutes of the first half and took a 7 point lead into the locker room.However,Creighton scored the first 10 points of the second half as ISU once again missed its first 6 shots.The Jays led by as many as 6 before the Birds once again stormed back into the game taking the lead for good with 7:03 to go in the game before coasting to the end at the free throw line.
