The Birds jumped out to a 12-5 lead with 14:21 left in the half on a pair of 3's by Gregg Alexander, and baskets by Marcus Arnold and Dana Ford and a pair of free throws by Kevin Troc. UNI cut the deficit to 4 with 10:27 left, but ISU answered with a pair of jumpers by Vince Greene to push the lead to 23-15. The Panthers scored the next 8 to tie the game at 23. Greene hit another jump shot, and UNI answered to tie the score at 25, but ISU went on a 10-2 run to finish out the half ahead 35-27. UNI fought back early in the second half and tied the game at 39 with 14:18 left in the game. Arnold converted a 3 point play to give ISU the lead again, but a pair of Panther baskets put them on top for the first time in the game. It was short lived as Alexander hit a 3 pointer to quickly put ISU back on top. The Panthers hung around and forced ties of 47 and 49 points before ISU went on a 10-0 run to give them a 59-49 advantage with 6:12 left in the game. Northern Iowa cut the lead down to 3 points, 66-63, with 1:20 to go. A pair of free throws by Boo Bojang put ISU up 5 with 1:15 left on the game clock. Matt Bennett scored to get the Panthers back within 3 with 39 ticks left on the clock. They fouled Greene with 38 seconds left and Vince sank both free throws for a 70-65 lead. Matt Schneiderman hit a 3 6 seconds later to make it a 2 point game. Troc was fouled with 26 seconds left and sank both to boost the lead to 4, 72-68. Bennett once again hit a 3 to cut ISU's lead to 1 point, and Greene was fouled again with 20 seconds left. He sank both to give the Birds a 3 point lead. Casey Reid stole the inbounds pass at half court and was fouled with 10 seconds left in the game. He missed both free throws giving UNI 1 last chance. A 3 point attempt by UNI missed and Reid gathered in the rebound and was fouled with 3 seconds to go. This time he sank both tosses and ISU escaped with a 76-71 victory.
