ISU jumped out to a 31-15 first half lead and never looked back. The Birds
coasted to a 45-24 halftime lead. Vince
Greene, who led all scorers with 26 points scored 10 in the first half. Gregg
Alexander added 8.
SIU Edwardsville cut the lead to 10, 60-50 at the 11:39 mark of the second
half on 3 straight 3 pointers by Logan Glosser, but the Birds rattled off the
next 13 points to take a 73-50 lead. SIUE cut the deficit to under 20 with 4:04 remaining,
78-59. In the final seconds ISU held an 89-68 lead, but SIUE scored with 20
seconds remaining and the Birds dribbled out the remainder of the clock to win
89-70.
Greene had a hot hand all night making 10 of 14 shots from the field,
including 6 of 7 from behind the arc, and 4 assists and 0 turnovers. Alexander did not score in the second
half, and finished with 8 points and 4 steals. Baboucarr
Bojang started slow, but finished with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Freshman
Chris Burras added 12. Andy
Strandmark finished with 8 points, while Casey
Reid and Marcus Arnold added 6. Kevin
Troc scored 5 to go along with 3 assists and 2 steals. Dana
Ford chipped in 4 point and a team high 5 assists. SIU-Edwardsville was led by Ron Jones with 19 points, 17
of which came in the second half.
