2 baskets by Boo Bojang got ISU off to an early 4-3 lead. UNI took a 5-3 lead before a Gregg Alexander 3 pointer put the Birds back on top. UNI tied the game at 7, then Marcus Arnold hit a jumper to put the Birds back on top 9-7. the Panthers scored the next 6 to take a 13-9 lead. With 10:59 left in the half and ISU down 16-11 an Alexander 3 pointer and a jumper by 
Kevin Troc tied the game at 16 with 10:12 left in the half. The Panthers went on a 7-1 lead to take a 23-17 lead with 8:57 remaining. The Birds once again battled back and tied the game at 25 on a jumper by Dana Ford, and then regained the lead on a shot in the lane y Andy Strandmark with 2:22 left. UNI once again tied the game, the a pair of free throws by Troc and a jumper in the paint by Arnold gave ISU a 4 point lead. The Panthers managed to cut the deficit to 2 with 55 seconds to go and the Birds took a 2 point 31-29 lead into the locker room.

It took nearly 2 minutes for either team to score before UNI tied the game at 31. The Birds regained the lead on a shot by Bojang. 2 lead changes and 1 tie occurred over a 26 second span to give UNI a 36-35 lead with 16:48 to go. They held the lead until the 13:45 mark when Arnold tied the game at 40. UNI scored to give them a 42-40 lead until Arnold scored back to back baskets and sank a free throw to put ISU up 50-46 with 10:29 left in the game. UNI held ISU scoreless over the next 4:25 to take a 58-50 lead. The Birds scored the next 6 to get back within 2 with 3:13 left. A Panther 3 pointer stopped the run and gave them a 61-56 lead with 2:49 left in the game. Once again the Birds went on a 6-0 run from jumpers by Arnold, Strandmark and Ford to put the Birds back on top 62-61 with 70 seconds Later, 2 free throws gave3 them a 4 point advantage. Vince Greene hit a jump shot in the lane to cut the deficit to 2, and after a missed free throw ISU got the ball back with 1 more chance to tie the game, but a Troc shot from 7 feet missed the mark and the Birds fell once again. The final score was UNI 66, ISU 64.
