Boo Bojang scored ISU's first 4 points as the game was tied at 4 early. A jumper by
Vince Greene gave the Birds a 6-4 advantage. The Salukis scored the next 4 to take an 8-6 lead. The Birds tied the game on a shot by
Gregg Alexander, however SIU scored 3 straight to take a 13-8 lead. They led by as many as 7, 21-14, before the Birds scored 4 straight to cut the lead to 3, 21-18 on a shot by
Marcus Arnold and 2 Bojang free throws. ISU finally forced a 25-25 tie with 4:32 left in the half on a 3 pointer by Alexander. They regained the lead on 2 free throws by Alexander, and a jumper by
Dana Ford gave the Birds a 4 point lead. The
Salukis Brad Korn hit a 3 point shot to get the Salukis back within 1. Trey
Guidry hit a 3 to put the Birds back up 4, but the Salukis scored the next 6 to take a 34-32 lead with 1:51 left in the half. 5 straight points by
Arnold gave ISU a 37-34 lead with 44 seconds to go, and Alexander followed with a basket to give ISU a 39-34 halftime advantage.
Alexander started the half with 2 baskets, with a Saluki bucket sandwiched between for a 43-36 ISU advantage, but he was also whistled for 2 quick fouls and was forced to the bench with 4 fouls with 17:03 to go in the game. The Birds managed to
stretch their lead to 9, 49-40, with 15:12 to go on a shot by Bojang. The Salukis outscored the Birds 15-3 over the next 5 minutes to take 55-52 lead. ISU could get no closer than 2 the rest of the way and fell 73-64.
