ISU fell behind early 7-0 before going on an 18-3 run to take an 18-10 lead
midway through the first half, sparked by the play of Randy
Rice at both ends of the floor. Wichita State answered with an 11-1 run over
the next 8 minutes to take a 21-19 lead. The Birds outscored the Shockers 10-7,
capped of by a 3 point shot by Gregg
Alexander with 5 seconds remaining to give ISU a 29-26 half time advantage.
The Birds never looked back, and led by as many as 18 points in the second
half. Wichita managed to close the gap to 8, but the Birds held them off from
the charity stripe down the stretch. Shawn
Jeppson led the charge offensively scoring a career high 27 points. Rice
finished with career highs of 16 points, 6 steals and 3 blocked shots. Alexander
added 13 points and Baboucarr Bojang added
15 points and a team high 7 rebounds.
