The Birds fell behind 50 quickly and then tied the game at 5. SMS scored the
next 7 points to take a 12-5 lead. Both teams struggled offensively the rest of
the half and SMS took a 29-22 lead into the locker room.
ISU finally gained their first lead of the game at 52-51 on a driving lay-up
by Randy Rice with 3 minutes left in the game.
SMS regained the lead, 57-55 before a 3 pointer by Gregg
Alexander but the Birds back on top 58-57 with 1:12 remaining. The Bids
padded their lead with 2 free throws by Shedrick
Ford with 19 seconds left in the game, by SMS's Terrance McGee answered with
a 3 pointer with 8 seconds remaining to tie the game at 60. Alexander received
the inbound pass and drove to the free throw line and dished off to Casey
Reid on the baseline. Reid put up a 3' shot with time expiring and was
fouled. He sank a free throw to give the Birds a 61-60 victory.
Shawn Jeppson led ISU with 14 points,
while Dirk Williams added 10 points and a
team high 6 rebounds. Rice added 8 points, 4 rebounds and a team high 6 assists,
while Alexander added 11 points.
