The game started slowly with Dirk Williams
scoring the first points on 2 free throws with 18:31 left in the half. Shedrick
Ford and Williams combined for 4 points to give ISU a 6-5 lead with 14:25 remaining. The
teams traded baskets over the next 3 minutes to forge a 10-10 tie. Later, a Baboucarr
Bojang basket gave ISU a 19-16 lead. Samford went on an 11-4 run to finish
out the half with a 27-23 lead.
The 2 teams started the second half trading baskets, and later the Birds
crept back within 1 point, 36-35, on a Bojang basket. ISU took the lead for good
on a basket by Gregg Alexander, 40-39. A Shawn
Jeppson 3 pointer off of a pass from Vince
Greene and 2 pointer by Greene gave the Birds a 6 point lead. Samford got
back within 1 point, 46-45, before back to back baskets by Bojang and
Greene put the Birds back out in front by 5. ISU sealed the game at the
line and won 65-54.
Greene, Bojang and Williams all scored in double digits to lead ISU.
